Mutually Assured Production

Mutually Assured Production, or MAP, is a design and production methodology that we've used in this lab to help drive the development of certain projects. We've found that this method works in an environment where there are many students who are willing and enthusiastic but are lacking the technical knowledge to complete the project on their own.

The theory behind this strategy is that the different teams help each other out while moving towards the same goal. Teams will solve problems that come up and propagate those changes to other teams.

Note that this method might not necessarily work for all projects. The original phrase was coined by Matthew Inouye (a UH EE alumni) after some discussion from Kenny Luong regarding the lab's projects and operating procedures.

Important Components

  1. Emphasis on communication
  2. Emphasis on documentation
  3. Emphasis on openness
  4. Emphasis on mentorship
