Project Management

This page describes the tasks and responsibilities of the project manager. The project manager is responsible for the organization of the lab, tracking every team's progress, and providing resources and help when necessary. He or she also keeps close contact with the Dr. Kuh, and is also involved in recruitment, and outreach events with the college and other schools.

Timeline of Tasks

  • List is in SCEL > General > People & Contacts > “SCEL Members List.xlsx”
  • Make a new tab and label it the semester
  • Fill in the information for each member:
    • First and last name
    • Email address
    • Role
    • Class standing (for students only)
    • Project (296, 396, 496, or 499 if they are taking it for credit)
  • Think about the overall picture and what we would like to accomplish
    • Weatherbox, wind sensor, forecasting, other current projects
    • New projects
    • Improvements for the lab or our projects
    • Recruitment
    • Outreach
  • Think about goals for each sub team
    • Create a list of the break down of each project
      • In order to achieve our overarching goals, what subteams do we need?
      • What are the responsibilities of each team?
    • What should each team have produced by the end of the semester?
    • What sub goals does the team need to accomplish in order to reach their end of the semester goal?
    • How will we track their progress?
    • Any specifications for their project?
  • Split members into groups based off of their interests
  • Try to make groups that you think would get along well together
  • Discuss the mentors in the lab with the leadership team
  • Determine their specialties and which subteams they will be mentoring
  • Give them access to online resources (i.e. Wiki, Slack, Discourse, Dropbox, etc.)

  • Post guidelines for the presentations on the x96_syllabus
  • Send out a Google Calendar invite to all lab members
  • Take notes on the meeting and post it to the wiki under All Hands Meetings
  • Schedule a time to meet with those who could not attend
