Updates

  • Deployed at Andrew's house
    • Boards worked well inside, but Bumblebee failed outside
      • Box started to whine and stopped transmitting when solar panel created a spike in voltage
      • Possible cause: single voltage regulator on PCB is not enough to handle power provided by the panel

To Do

  • Figure out why the board doesn't respond well to power from the solar panel
    • Measure current/voltages to and from the panel with the battery and simulated sunlight
  • Possibly deploy second board

Attended: Alex(s), Kayla, Becky

Updates

  • Tested previously deployed Bumblebee with solar light in the lab
  • Removed voltage regulator on board to see if the problem was a current draw problem
  • Attempted to use a through hole voltage regulator with a higher current output
  • Tested other board with solar light to see if that board also had a problem
  • Noticed that second board's voltage from the solar charging chip would fluctuate when the board or panel would be moved
  • Noticed the male barrel jack on the solar panel that was deployed was broken
  • Tested board with new panel and there was no buzzing like there was on the deployed board
  • Voltages on board with new panel stayed constant

To Do

  • Test new board with new panel to see if it can send packets
  • Replaced voltage regulator on first board
  • Create a new housing for second board
  • Deploy!
