Onboarding Emails

  • For 196/296 students
    • Use the google form in SCEL Leadership > Students > Forms > Onboarding Forms > SCEL 196_296 Projects
    • May want to redo questions based off of responses off of last semester
    • Purpose of the survey is to gain basic information from the students as well as learn more about them
      • Concerns toward engineering
      • Long term goals
      • General interests
      • What they would like to learn
      • What motivates them
  • For 396/496 students
    • Use the google form in SCEL Leadership > Students > Forms > Onboarding Forms > SCEL 396_496 Projects
    • Current questions should include:
      • Name
      • UH Email
      • Phone number- can you text?
      • Name you prefer going by
      • Major and track (if you know)
      • Class standing
      • Estimated graduation date
      • Classes you have taken (EE, ICS, MATH)
      • What classes are you taking?
      • Do you dorm, commute from nearby, or commute from far away?
      • What software/programming skills do you have? (ex. programming languages, tools, etc.)
      • How would you rate yourself on the software skills you have? (scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest)
      • What hardware skills do you have? (ex. PCB design, soldering, etc.)
      • How would you rate yourself on the hardware skills you have? (scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest)
      • What previous project experience do you have?
      • How confident are you working in a team? (scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest)
      • What projects are you interested in? (weatherbox subteams, wind sensor, forecasting, other)
      • Why did you decide to join our lab?
      • What do you want to get from this project? (ex. communication skills, software/hardware skills, leadership experience, etc.)
  • Give new members access to internal tools used in the lab
  • Wiki
  • Slack
  • Google Calendar
    • Give access to the [email protected] calendar
    • Use @hawaii.edu addresses and choose the “Make Changes to Events” option
    • Remove access from old members
  • Google Drive
    • Give access to the SCEL Google Drive folder to new students
    • Give access to the SCEL Leadership Google Drive folder to new leadership members
    • Old members should be taken off of the Google Drive
    • Send out an email to new members to notify them of their access to the folders
  • Use the google form in SCEL Leadership > Students > Forms > Onboarding Forms > Bio for the SCEL Website for the students to submit their biography
  • Bios need to:
    • Be written in third person
    • Include the following information:
      • Name
      • Major/track
      • Year in college
      • Academic interests (if you are having difficulty thinking of this, think of classes you have taken that you were interested in and write the topics of those classes in your bio.)
      • Hobbies and non-academic interests
  • Have students create a LinkedIn page if they don't have one
    • Have them submit their LinkedIn page on the form
  • Email link and ask members to submit their website biography
