wind_sensor:meeting_minutes_october_1_2016

Attended: Daisy, Mengyuan, Creighton, Scott

  • Collected raw data from teensy with one microphone
    • Plotted data in excel to gain an understanding of the data we are working with
    • Tests conducted in multiple conditions:
      • sound frequencies of 2k, 4k, 6k, 10k, 12k, and 14k Hz
      • indoors with Vornado fan at highest speed setting
  • Received Omega HHF802 Anemometer this week
    • Difficulty connecting anemometer to Matlab via RS232 data cable
      • Matlab sees device in serial port but gives the error: “the specified amount of data was not returned within the timeout period”
  • Other possible wind sensor ideas
    • Ultrasonic sensor
      • Measure the time it takes for sound to travel from emitter to receiver
      • Use equation for wind speed that takes into account temperature, pressure, humidity, etc.
  • To Do:
    • Consider splitting up into two groups:
      • Mengyuan to research ultrasonic wind sensor
      • Creighton and Scott to continue replicating Andy's tests and results to gain further understanding
    • Etch/mill working board by the end of the semester
