Wind Sensor Team Meeting- October 1, 2016
Attended: Daisy, Mengyuan, Creighton, Scott
Updates
- Collected raw data from teensy with one microphone
- Plotted data in excel to gain an understanding of the data we are working with
- Tests conducted in multiple conditions:
- sound frequencies of 2k, 4k, 6k, 10k, 12k, and 14k Hz
- indoors with Vornado fan at highest speed setting
- Received Omega HHF802 Anemometer this week
- Difficulty connecting anemometer to Matlab via RS232 data cable
- Matlab sees device in serial port but gives the error: “the specified amount of data was not returned within the timeout period”
- Other possible wind sensor ideas
- Ultrasonic sensor
- Measure the time it takes for sound to travel from emitter to receiver
- Use equation for wind speed that takes into account temperature, pressure, humidity, etc.
Reminders
- To Do:
- Consider splitting up into two groups:
- Mengyuan to research ultrasonic wind sensor
- Creighton and Scott to continue replicating Andy's tests and results to gain further understanding
- Etch/mill working board by the end of the semester
